Quadrilateral CBSE Class 8

 Quadrilateral CBSE NCERT Class (8, 9, 10)
What is Quadrilateral?
The closed figure bounded by four sides is called quadrilateral.
It has four sides, four vertices and four angles. Sum of all angles is 360 degree.
Example: ABCE is a quadrilateral. Its four vertices are A, B, C, D.  Its four angels are <ABC, <DAB, <BCD, <CDA. It has four sides AB, BC, CD, DA.

What are adjacent sides of a quadrilateral?
Two sides of a quadrilateral which have a common end point are called its adjacent sides.
Such as (AB, BC) , (CD, DA).

What is opposite sides of a quadrilateral?
Two sides of a quadrilateral are called its opposite sides if they do not have a common end point.  Such as (AB, CD)  , (DA, BC)

What is adjacent angles of a quadrilateral?
When two angles of a quadrilateral have a common arm then they are called adjacent angles of quadrilateral.  Such as <A and <B.

What is opposite angles of a quadrilateral?
When two angles of a quadrilateral do not have any common side then they are called opposite angles of quadrilateral.  Such as <A and <C.

Question Time:

  1. How many sides a quadrilateral has? Also how many angles and vertices it has?
  2. How many diagonals it has?
  3. Sum of four angles of a quadrilateral is ...........
  4. PQRS is a quadrilateral.  Then name two pair of adjacent sides.
  • Name two pair of opposite sides.
  • Name two pair of opposite angles.
  • How many angles it has?
Solve question
Three angles of a quadrilateral are 45,70,90 degree. Find the fourth side.
Answer: Sum of four angles is 360 degree.
            Three angles are 45,70,90 degree.
           Sum of three angles is (45 + 70 + 90) = 205 degree.
          Therefore the fourth angle is  (360 – 205) = 155 degree.

In a quadrilateral three angles are equal and each value is 70 degree, Find the remaining angle.
Answer: Since three angles are equal and each value is 70 degree.
Therefore these three angles sum = 210 degree.
Since sum of four angles of a quadrilateral is 360 degree.
So fourth angle is (360 – 210) = 150 degree

The ratio of the four angle of a quadrilateral is 3 : 6 : 4 : 5. Find the value of each angle.
Answer: Let the angles are 3x, 6x,4x,5x
Sum of four angles of a quadrilateral is 360 degree.
Therefore 3x + 6x + 4x + 5x = 360
              =>18x  = 360
              =>   x = 20
Therefore each angles are 3x = 40 degree, 6x = 120 degree, 4x = 80 degree  and  5x = 100 degree.
